About Us
The German-Chinese Program is run by the Center for Global Politics (CGP) at Freie Universität Berlin and selected Chinese partner universities in China. PhD students are enrolled at the Graduate School of Global Politics at CGP or the PhD programs in Politics at one of the Chinese partner universities respectively.
Freie Universität Berlin (FU) was founded in 1948 under the motto "Truth, Justice, Freedom." With about 570 professors, 42,500 students in approximately 90 different programs, 4,000 graduates and 1,000 doctoral candidates each year, FU Berlin is the largest of the three universities in the German capital. Along with a unique and international character, its academic profile comprises a wide range of disciplines, centers and groups within the humanities and the social and natural sciences. FU Berlin was recognized as one of nine German "universities of excellence" in the federal and state "Initiative for Excellence".

Chinese partner universities
Fudan University is one of China’s top universities. Founded in 1905, Fudan has developed into an internationally renowned, research-driven university with 17 full-time schools and 69 departments. The School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) was founded in the year 2000. SIRPA has two National Priority programs, one State Education Ministry Designated Research program, two postdoctoral programs, six doctoral degree programs and seven master's degree programs.

Renmin University (RUC), founded in 1937, is one of the key universities in political and social sciences in China. RUC is a comprehensive research-orientated university and inhabits in total 21 departments and institutes. The School of International Studies (SIS) embodies all disciplines related to political sciences and international studies and offers three B.A., eight M.A. and eight PhD degree programmes.

Team at Freie Universität Berlin
Klaus Segbers (Program Director) is professor for Political Science at the Institute of East-European Studies and the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science (OSI) at FU Berlin. His academic expertise extends to the areas of foreign policy analysis and International Relations, in particular international political economy, issues of globalization and global city regions. Furthermore, he focuses on designing innovative concepts of knowledge-building and transfer, including the development of e-education and blended learning programs in international contexts. Daniela Schmidt (Program Manager) Daniela studied political science and sociology in Düsseldorf, New York and Berlin. She holds an M.A. in social sciences from Humboldt University Berlin. International relations belong to her main areas of interest. She already collected quite some experiences in project management and akquisition of third party funds in various institutions. Previously she worked as a research assistant at the German Bundestag.

Sabine Pag (student advisor) holds degrees in English Studies and Administrative Sciences from the universities of Bonn, Speyer and Bruges. Her professional experiences include research on the European Community/Union and public relations at the German national support structure for various European Community initiatives. She is the main contact person for our students.
