About Us
The German-Chinese Program is run by the Center for Global Politics (CGP) at Freie Universität Berlin and the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. PhD students are enrolled at the Graduate School of Global Politics at CGP or the PhD programs in Politics, International Relations and Public Policy at SIRPA respectively.
Freie Universität Berlin (FU) was founded in 1948 under the motto "Truth, Justice, Freedom." With about 570 professors, 42,500 students in approximately 90 different programs, 4,000 graduates and 1,000 doctoral candidates each year, FU Berlin is the largest of the three universities in the German capital. Along with a unique and international character, its academic profile comprises a wide range of disciplines, centers and groups within the humanities and the social and natural sciences. FU Berlin was recognized as one of nine German "universities of excellence" in the federal and state "Initiative for Excellence".

Fudan University is one of China’s top universities. Founded in 1905, Fudan has developed into an internationally renowned, research-driven university with 17 full-time schools and 69 departments. The School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) was founded in the year 2000. SIRPA has two National Priority programs, one State Education Ministry Designated Research program, two postdoctoral programs, six doctoral degree programs and seven master's degree programs.

Team at Freie Universität Berlin
Klaus Segbers (Program Director) is professor for Political Science at the Institute for East European Studies and the Otto-Suhr-Institute for Political Science (OSI) at FU Berlin. His academic expertise extends to the areas of foreign policy analysis and International Relations, in particular international political economy, issues of globalization and global city regions. Furthermore, he focuses on designing innovative concepts of knowledge-building and transfer, including the development of e-education and blended learning programs in international contexts. Dr. Claudia Kissling (Program Coordinator) is a research fellow at the Otto-Suhr-Institute for Political Science (OSI) at FU Berlin. She studied International Relations at the Institute Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva and received her PhD at the Law Faculty of the University of Potsdam. She has previously worked at the German Bundestag, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and at the University of Bremen's Collaborative Research Center "Transformations of the State".

Bettina Rollow (Student Advisor) holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Studies of the University of Maastricht. After graduating, she participated in the 18-month DAAD Scholarship Program “Language & Professional Training in China”, during which she first studied the Chinese language at the BSFU in Beijing and subsequently worked in the department of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Bayer (China) Ltd.

Ljuba Popkova (project secretary) completed her vocational training as a certified Foreign Language Correspondent and is fluent in Russian and English. She is an alumna of the FSA exchange program, which promotes democratic values and institutions in Eurasia
