Scholarship programs in Germany

The following foundations and institutions offer scholarship opportunities for PhD candidates. Please pay special attention to requirements such as language ability etc..

 

Berliner Graduiertenförderung (NaFöG)

Homepage: just in German   
Application period:Mid-April and Mid-October
Requirements: just for students of FU Berlin

 

Cusanuswerk Bischöfliche Studienförderung

Homepage: German and English   
Application date: March, 1 and September, 1
Requirements: just for German, EU-European and resident non-EU-European students of catholic confession.

 

DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service

Homepage: German and English
The DAAD is Germany’s biggest sponsor for foreign students and German students abroad. There are many programs and scholarships with different conditionalities.

 

Dr. Jost-Henkel-Stiftung

Homepage: just in German
Application period: all year
Requirements: The neediness must be proven.

 

Evangelisches Studienwerk e.V. Villigst

Homepage: German and English   
Application date: June, 15 and December, 15
Requirements: just for students of protestant confession (exceptions possible).

 

Friedrich Ebert Stiftung

Homepage: German and English   
Application period: at all time possible
Requirements: excellent German language abilities;
Foundation close to the Social Democrat Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Friedrich Naumann Stiftung für die Freiheit

Homepage: German and English  
Application date: May, 31 and October, 31
Requirements: excellent German language abilities;
Foundation close to the Liberal Democratic Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Gottlieb Daimler und Karl Benz Stiftung

Homepage: just in German
Application date: March, 1 and October, 1
Requirements: maximum age of 30 years for application.

 

Hanns Seidel Stiftung

Homepage: German and English   
Application period: in January, Mai and June
Requirements: maximum age of 32 years for application;
Foundation close to the Bavarian Christian Social Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Hans Böckler Stiftung

Homepage: just in German           
Application period: in May and August
Requirements: Foundation close to trade unions, hence, applicant's involvement in a trade union or comparable societal organisation is necessary.

 

Heinrich Böll Stiftung

Homepage: German and English   
Application date: March, 1 and September, 1
Requirements: excellent German language abilities;
Foundation close to the Green Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer-Dienst e. V. (KAAD)

Homepage: German and English
Application period: all year
Requirements: for foreign students of catholic confession with excellent German language abilities. All students must prove the relevance of their studies for their home country.

 

Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfonds

Homepage: just in German
Application period: Feb., 15 till March, 15; and August, 15 till Sept., 15
Requirements: at least “good” grade and maximum age of 30 years for application (exception might be made).

 

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung

Homepage: German and English   
Application period: April till end of July
Requirements: excellent German language abilities;
Foundation close to the Christian Democratic Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung

Homepage: German and English    
Application date: April, 30 and October, 31
Requirements: excellent German language abilities, maximum age of 30 years for application.
Foundation close to the Left Party and applicants should share the basic values.

 

Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft 

Homepage: German and English   
Application period: May and August
Requirements: Applicants must be under the age of 30 years at the time of application.

 

Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes

Homepage: German and English
Requirements: Students cannot apply on their own but have to be promoted by an institution or a professor.

New: Methodology Course

The new course in methodology designed by Prof. Schimmelfennig started this week with the first online tasks and exams. The students of the GSGP will complete the whole course online by using the platform Blackboard.

Intensive Seminar March 2010

In beginning of March, the students of the GSGP will be introduced by an intensive seminar to the Online course “Methodology” by Prof. Schimmelfennig. The seminar will last for 4 days and also includes a whole day of career building workshops in the field of international organizations.
