Frauke Austermann is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Global Politics since October 2009. Her dissertation is on the role of the European Union's Delegations in EU external relations. Her supervisors are Prof. Klaus Segbers (FU Berlin) and Prof. Li Qingsi (Renmin University of China). The work of the EU Delegation in China is the central case study. Frauke has therefore used her exchange year in China for in-depth field research on the cooperation of the EU Delegation in Beijing and the local member state embassies.

Frauke holds a BA degree in European Studies from Maastricht University and Sciences Po Paris and a Masters degree in International Employment Relations from the London School of Economics (both with distinction). She studied Mandarin at University College London and at Beijing Language and Culture University. Before joining the Center for Global Politics, Frauke taught European Studies as a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University.
