Prof. a. D. Dr. Martin Jaenicke has more than 35 years of experience as professor for comparative politics, scientific author and senior policy advisor (e. g. of the planning staff of the Chancellor’s Office). He was member of the Berlin state parliament in the early 1980s as well as Project Director of the UN University, member of the National Research Committee for Global Change and of the German UNESCO Commission (1991-96). Prof. Jaenicke was member of the Energy Council of the Berlin state government from 1989 to 1997. For more than twenty years, he has been director of the Environmental Policy Research Centre of Free University of Berlin (1986-2007). He has also been a member of the German National Committee on Global Change Research and of the government Advisory Council on the Environment (1999-2008, Vice President 2000-2004). Since 2003, he has been a board member of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt and member of the International Advisory Board of the Wuppertal Institut (since 2002). Books on State Failure, Ecological modernisation, and innovation in environmental policy have been translated in several languages. In 1998, he received the prize of the Nature Protection Foundation in Berlin.
